Can’t wait Read Across America Day. I’ve started to practice my turbo fast reading of Fox in Sox. I don’t think I can beat the girl from the Youtube video, but I’m close.

I love teaching with Dr. Seuss; my favorite activity is to make ice cream cone snacks that look like the cat in the hat. The kids always enjoy making and eating them!

I love Dr. Suess! His books are great for young readers! Read Across America day is celbrated at our school with having guest readers and The Cat in the Hat makes an appearance throughout the day to read and hand out treats! I can’t wait until there is a whole classroom decoration kit of Dr. Suess!

Dr. Seuss day at our school also involves having guest speakers come and read to the class and teachers are welcome to dress up in character. It is really fun! I loved the note card idea where the teacher would write a special note to the student and then the student could use it as a book mark. I think that would give them a warm fuzzy and help encourage them to read.

I LOVE Dr. Seuss, He is my very favorite author. I have all his books and love to share them with my students. We do many activities for Dr. Seuss and Read Across America. My favorite thing to do is the Reading Cafe. We turn our tables and desks in my room into a cafe. I have created menus with the books I have available and we invite the younger grades to come in and we read to them. They sit a cafe table (covered with red/white checked table cloths and salt and pepper shakers, etc). The younger child looks over the menu and decides which book he/she would like the second grader to read to them. We also serve goldfish crackers. We always have a great time with this and the kids absolutely LOVE it.
