Bullying Front and Center in Education News
With Tuesday’s public address to the country’s teaching force through a “Dear Colleague” letter by the National Department of Education, the topic of bullying is being discussed more than ever. The Department of Education warned teachers of their legal obligation to stop student-on-student “racial and national origin harassment, sexual and gender-based harassment, and disability harassment.” President Obama stressed the importance of creating a safe environment for all students and emphasized that bullying should not be considered a normal rite of passage.
While the Department of Education is planning on holding workshops for in the early part of 2011, they do link to bullying prevention tips on the website, BullyingInfo.org, for dealing with bullies.
