What can turn a bad day around? A funny story, of course! Take a peek at some of the antics that are happening in schools all over the country. Not only will they make you laugh, but they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
People From Another Country
Geography lessons might be in order for some students after this funny story from Rachel. “I was teaching a guided reading group, and we were studying a book about how people are alike and different. One student suggested that people from the same area are alike because they speak the same language, and then we discussed how people from different countries speak different languages. One student piped up and said, ‘You mean like people from Texas?’”
“Helping”
Sometimes having students help is not all it is cracked up to be. Just ask Robyn. “While hanging pictures in the hallway, one of my kindergarteners wanted to be helpful. He put glue all over the back of his picture and stuck it to the wall. He proudly proclaimed, ‘I can hang them fast!’”
What’s In A Name
Remembering names at the beginning of the school year can be tough, but when you are a student, it can be even more challenging. Nichole knew she had her work cut out for her when she had this exchange! “[We] were working with students to remember their classmates’ names.
Me: G, what’s your friend’s name?
G: I dunno.
Me: Ask her.
G: Friend, what’s your name?
A: “A, the Princess.”
Me: What’s her name?
G: Girl.”

I was finishing up the year by asking my 1st grade students to write about what they had learned in First Grade. One student wrote “I learned to spale.”
