Dealing with Parents

Get ready for parent helpers with these ideas from Rhonda, a 3rd-5th Grade Teacher, in York, PA.

Each day, during the week of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, our school invites parents to visit as guest readers to read aloud from Dr. Seuss books.*

To welcome parents to our classrooms we hold a Dr. Seuss door decorating contest. Each class develops its own door design. We also listen to a Dr. Seuss quote each day. During our AM announcements, our principal reads a quote from a Dr. Seuss book. The first student who can identify the story containing the quote wins a Dr. Seuss book! (We have parents guess as well.) At the end of the week, we have a drawing for a Dr. Seuss plush character toy. (*Tip: Working parents prepare recordings of readings that teachers play in class.)
