Solution Sunday: Squeaky Chairs and Scuffed Floors
|
The Solution: The sounds of squeaking and the sight of scuff marks get under our skin too. That is why we listened to our teacher panels who said, “Stop the squeaking! Stop the scuff marks!” and created the Quiet Chair Foot Covers. That’s right, we put the words “quiet” and “chairs” in the same product name. These handy covers fit securely on the chair legs and they not only keep the noise down, but they also help prevent scratches and scuff marks.
Looking for something with a little less profile than the Quiet Chair Foot Covers? Try the Fuzzy Feet Chair Gliders. Much like their counterparts, these sturdy plastic covers snap securely onto the legs of chairs and desks making for a quieter classroom with far fewer marks on the floor. There is a thick felt pad at the bottom of each glider to help make moving chairs around the classroom a breeze.
The next time you are fretting about the condition of your classroom floors or raising your eyebrows at yet another chair squeak, remember that a Really Good solution is out there just for you!

The Problem: Determined to get the chair scuff marks off your classroom’s tile floors, you spend time scrubbing each spot. The next day you encourage students to be careful and not slide their chairs roughly or make them squeak as they push them back from their desks. You think you may have this squeaking and scuffing under control…until the bell rings to start the day and the first squeak is heard. By the end of the day the scuff marks liter the tile and if you hear one more chair squeak you may just scream. How can you fix this problem? Have no fear,

We have tried the tennis balls, but somehow they “accidentally” come off. Lol I would live to try the Quiet Chair Foot Covers.to see if they would be the solution to this problem.

Would love to try these! Someone told me to “hot glue” the soft side of velcro onto the bottoms, but I have been very hesitant to do that! Would love to try these!

Luckily, most of my desks and chairs are on the carpeted part of our room. The only thing I have found that helps is making sure transition time is not rushed.

I hot glued felt to the bottom legs of all my chairs! Time consuming and cumbersome but works!

I have tried tennis balls (which somehow come part way off) and felt pads (which last about a week before falling off). I’d love a better solution!

For pencils that forever roll off the desk or the children that can’t seem to stay out of their desk, I clip a basket to the side or the desk. Use a long skinny but narrow plastic basket to the outside edge of the desk with a binder clip.

Felt works for a while, but eventually comes off.

We are moving into a remodeled building with painted/ polished floors(had carpet until now), wondering about the noise level. Was thinking about felt or the sticky back felt dots. Would like to try these.

I have been dying for a solution for over two years now and have yet to find one. However, someone did mention to me a few weeks ago to use medium size felt squares and sit the foot of the chair on it, gather the remaining edges up and rubber band it. It would be like the chair had little socks on. I might have to try it!

One of our teachers said that if you hot glue the desk legs to the floor, they will not move. Unfortunately it wouldn’t be feasible to hot glue the chairs. Wish I could invent the perfect solution to scuff marks made by desks and chairs! But, until then your products look like a great solution!

I have used the tennins balls that were saved from our local recreation center for me, but cutting them was such a dangerous chore. They really worked well. I currently use the quiet chair foot covers and LOVE them. I replace them every two years which is quite an expense when you have 25 chairs, but they are well worth it!
