For an intervention class focusing on operating with fractions I got my kids cooking! They had to scale the recipe to feed the class, use tsp/tbs/cup conversions, and calculate calorie content per serving (no calculators allowed). When they were actually in the kitchen I limited the measuring tools they had… ie you have a half cup and quarter cup what combos could we use to get 3 and 3-quarters cup of milk.

Food always gets the kids interested. Can’t wait to try this out with students. I think this idea would be great for measurement and converting between different measurements. This could also work well for working with fractions.
