Inclusive Classrooms
Between 1989 and 2013, the percentage of students with disabilities who were in a general education class for 80 percent or more of the school day increased from about 32 percent to nearly 62 percent. Many schools have inclusion classrooms. The Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) says that students who receive special education services should learn in the “least restrictive environment.” This means that they should spend as much time as possible with students who don’t receive special education services.
