Apple crafts for preschoolers are a great way to introduce the beginning of the school year and the beauty of the autumn season. Here are seven fun craft ideas to get started.
7 Apple Crafts for Preschool
1. Yarn Apple
Supplies:
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Glue
- Yarn (red and green)
- Stick or Twig (from outside)
- Clear Packaging Tape
- Chenille Stems
Instructions:
Cut the cardboard into the shape of an apple. Preschoolers can begin attaching the yarn to the cardboard cut out with the glue. They can glue the yarn down in rows, circles, lines, or however they would like to. Once they have created their yarn apple and the glue has dried, flip it over and tape the twig to the back creating the stem of the apple. Attach chenille stems to the stick to make a leaf or two for the apple. Finally, display the apple for everyone to enjoy!
2. Mosaic Apple
Supplies:
- Craft Paper
- Marker
- Wikki Stix
- Pom Poms
Instructions:
With the marker, draw an outline of an apple on the craft paper. Early learners can then attach different colored Wikki Stix into the outline of the apple. When complete, children can then press on various colored pom poms onto the Wikki Stix to create their mosaic apple. This is not only a fun craft, but also an educational sensory experience for preschoolers, as well.
3. Apple Stamps
Supplies:
- Apples
- Knife (for adult use only)
- Paint
- Card Stock or Art Paper
- Paper Plate
- Black Marker
Instructions:
Using the knife cut the apples in half for the children. Put different color paint onto separate paper plates. Allow the preschoolers to dip the apple (inside down) into the paint color of their choice and then stamp the art paper. Once their masterpiece has dried, use the marker to draw stems onto the apple prints. Hang on the wall!
4. Apple Tree
Supplies:
- Art Paper
- Finger Paints (brown, green, and red)
- Paper Plate
- Damp Paper Towels
Instructions:
Put some brown paint onto the paper plate. Help preschoolers press their hand and forearm into the brown paint and stamp it onto the art paper. This will be the trunk and branches of the apple tree. Using a damp paper towel, help children to wipe off the brown paint from their hand and arm. Next, put out the green paint for children to dip their finger or fingers in to begin stamping their fingerprints to create the leaves of the tree. When the tree is full of leaves, help wipe their fingers with the damp paper towel. After that, put out the red paint. Preschoolers can then dip their finger into the red paint and begin creating the apples of the tree with their fingerprints. When finished, wipe off the children’s hands and let their work of art dry before putting on display.
5. Tissue Paper Apple
Supplies:
- Construction Paper
- Marker
- Tissue Paper (red, green, and brown)
- Glue
Instructions:
Draw an outline of an apple on construction paper. Assist preschoolers in gluing down the tissue paper to “color in” the apple. The tissue paper can be crumpled in little balls or cut up in small squares before applying.
6. Button Apple
Supplies:
- Cardstock
- Marker
- Glue
- Buttons
Instructions:
Draw an apple with the marker onto the cardstock. Let children glue the buttons into the apple to create their button apple.
7. Paper Bag Apple
Supplies:
- Paper Bag
- Scrap Paper
- Paint (red and green)
- Paintbrush
- Glue
Instructions:
Create little balls from the scrap paper and put them in the brown paper bag. Twist the top of the bag closed, and then begin to shape the stuffed bag to resemble an apple. Using additional scrap paper, create leaves to then be glued onto stem. When finished, help preschoolers paint their paper bag apple.
