What is Digital Learning?
What exactly is Digital Learning? Digital Learning is a way to introduce educational technology to students of all ages. According to the Digital Learning Day website, “It emphasizes high-quality instruction and provides access to challenging content, feedback through formative assessment, opportunities for learning anytime and anywhere, and individualized instruction to ensure all students reach their full potential to succeed in college and a career.” Learning about these tools early on will allow students to create a concrete understanding of the importance of technology both personally and professionally. As years go on, there continue to be endless opportunities in the workforce because of ever changing technology.
Digital Learning Day
Digital Learning Day (DLDay) was started in 2012 to spread awareness about educational technology. The amount of software created to enhance student learning is continuously blossoming and this day is all about showing teachers how to effectively use these tools! All public schools may not have the funds for specific forms of technology. This day displays more than one type of tool for all classroom settings. Because the day is called Digital Learning Day, some people may find that to be a boring lesson on how to use laptops or iPads in the classroom. However, this day is considered a celebration for both students and teachers to improve the lives of their students not only today in their classroom, but in the future as they enter the workforce.
How can Technology Enhance Teaching?
Technology is a huge advancement in today’s schools. It is not meant to take over the teacher’s role, however it can enhance the teacher’s style of educating the students. With so many new apps, websites, and tools used for educational purposes, this day creates excitement for both teachers and students to gain more understanding of how these can be used to benefit one another.
There is no shortage of edtech tools for today’s teachers. Not only do these tools help teachers save time, but they allow them to communicate with parents more easily, to share and collaborate, to lighten their paperwork load and even help you connect with your students. You can even set up your grading online.
Celebrate DLDay
DLDay is celebrated on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Make sure to check it out not only on February 22, but everyday!
