Depending on the age of your students, the events of September 11th, 2001 may or may not be an appropriate lesson topic. For younger students, there are more gentle approaches to discussing the events of that day. The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Mordicai Gerstein tells the true story of French aerialist Philippe Petit who walked on a tightrope between the World Trade Center Towers in 1974. The beautiful illustrations capture the magnitude of the event while also paying homage to the towers that were landmarks of New York City. Recommended by Really Good Teachers on Facebook, The Man Who Walked Between the Towers is a lovely way to discuss the towers that once stood.
