This is something that I struggle with the most! “Active Play” in kinder. What ideas or suggestions do my fellow Early Childhood educators have? I have legos, play dough, magnatiles, all sorts of “free choice” activities, but I guess it is hard for me to let them just have time to explore these, because I consider it just “playing.” I know I need to change my mind shift, but any suggestions on how I can do this would be greatly appreciated!!

I give my students 30 minutes towards the end of the day to “just play”. This is their free choice time. If you want their play time to have more purpose you could incorporate fine motor activities with the playdough (cutting, forming letters); the legos or magnatiles could be included in a science center where they build something. Dramatic play center could be centered around a theme you are studying. It is okay to let them just play 🙂
