Hi! I’m hoping to get a jump on planning far in advance over winter break and was wondering what your favorite read alouds are for African American History Month in February.  Thanks!

I’ve used Bill Pickett by Andrea Pinkney and Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt by Deborah Hopkinson before when I was teaching 3rd grade and my kids loved them!  There are a ton of others, but those were our class favorites. =)

I do an author study of Maya Angelou during African American History Month, so every morning we read a new poem.
