5. Peace Lily
Listed as one of the top 10 air purifying plants, the Peace Lily is an excellent choice for the classroom. It is easy to care for, sags slightly when it needs water (think of it as it’s own alert system), and can be split every couple of years to create another plant. Before rushing out to buy one, check to see if any of your friends, neighbors, or colleagues have one that is ready to be split. Laurie Rodger explains how she deals with the one in her classroom: “My classroom hasn’t any windows and is carpeted. I brought in a giant Peace Lily and created a classroom job for my kids to keep it watered. It’s still going strong, PLUS it’s an air purifier. Can’t go wrong–just water once a week.”
Other plants that you might want to consider include cacti, ferns, and Spider Plants. What type of plants do you have in your classroom?
